Denver was founded on the flat rangelands adjacent to the Rocky Mountains, allowing it to be built on a wonderful grid. As you learn the various aspects associated with this grid, you'll find yourself navigating our city like a native! Major highways include I-25, north and south; I-70, east and west; I-225, which connects I-25 and I-70 and services the eastern suburbs; and C-470, the outer loop around the city. (East of I-25 this becomes E-470, a toll-way.)
Public transportation is primarily by bus and is operated by RTD, the Regional Transportation District. RTD also offers light-rail service in limited areas of the city.
Four-wheel drive is not necessary for Colorado commuters. Most front wheel drive vehicles do just fine on our winter roadways. Commute times are relatively short, leaving plenty of time for family, friends and leisure activities. By the way…don't forget to buckle up - it's the law!
